Developing a Brand
I have a confession to make:
I’ve been procrastinating a WHOLE lot for the past month and a half. I feel quite bad about it, more just shameful in my ability to focus (or lack-thereof).
I am always abundant of ideas for new games to make, digital services I could provide, music I could write, business ideas, video ideas, and so much more. It’s often difficult to not stray from a good idea I’ve set upon, but I seem to be getting better.
I’ve always wanted to have my own brand or business; a large collection of work where I can share some of my personal interests and products that others can enjoy. The ultimate goal is to create and lead a game studio, where I have the freedom to design and develop games with others who are equally, if not more passionate about the craft.
However despite how excited, motivated and ambitious I was 2 months ago, I’m still sitting on a bunch of unfinished Unity projects and an unpublished website. Mainly because that initial motivation fizzled out, and rather than practice self-discipline and creating habits, I played a whole lot of other video-games (namely World of Warcraft Classic). It’s only now I’m trying to get back on the saddle, hence this 2nd blog post in a single day.
I’ve heard that motivation has nothing to do with the success of these kind of things, but rather doing the work consistently, especially on the days you don’t feel like doing it. Showing up is 90% of the work. I always try to do at least one little task every day, whether that’s placing one wooden crate down in my game project, or writing some of a blog post for this website. It’s all about momentum and consistency. I believe it’s not the tiny amount of progress that matters, but rather the potential work that could be done when you create a habit out of it.
I’m currently treating Krumble Hut as my “side hustle”. I work at a restaurant at night to pay the bills, and make games and other things while I’m not working. Right now, my main goal is to get this website to the point where it has enough content that I’m comfortable releasing it to the public. I don’t expect the website to generate much traffic (at least initially), but I want it to be the hub of my brand. The home of all my creativity. A non-traditional website you can explore and play games, listen to music you may not have heard, watch videos and learn about games and music, and maybe even find a few secrets here and there ;) .
This particular blog section is where I can share my thoughts and ideas directly to you. I will never use AI in any way when it comes to these blog posts. It’s just me, my smooth brain and my keyboard here. I feel it’s more authentic this way, a bit more personal perhaps. Hopefully I can provide some insight, and maybe even teach you a thing or two with these posts.
Thanks for reading this by the way! I appreciate you giving me and my words the time of day, as time is the most valuable asset we all have (because you can’t ever get it back!). So hopefully this provides some value to you, and if not, well, people spend lots of time doing silly things anyway, but here’s a fun animal fact to soften the blow:
Pygmy marmosets live in the amazon and love eating tree sap!
